Love and Paperwork

Posted by Mark Altman on 1st Feb 2012

My wife gave me a lovely card the other day – one of those with a tasteful black and white photo on the front with some meaningful wording. It read “what the world really needs is more love and less paperwork” ... which of course is very true ... and started me thinking.

Is it fair to say that more people are successful in love than they are in handling their paperwork? Now I realise this might kick off a much deeper debate about what love really is and how men and women have completely different views and needs etc ... however I’d come back to the main point is that our focus and attention is usually more on love than on the paperwork ... and usually when you give a subject your focus and attention, the results tend to follow.

Now am I suggesting we spend more time on dealing with our paperwork than our love lives? Most definitely not ... the key is that the paperwork should not be an issue for us at all ... for years there’s been much advice on how to organise ourselves and filing systems both physical and now electronically too. But even for those who are blessed with the organisational discipline to handle inbound statements, letters, terms and conditions and numerous insurance policies, do you ever wonder if there might be a better way?

Being a fan of Star Trek (the Next Generation version only though!) I’d often thought that we may have to wait until the 25th century to really go completely paperless, but actually now with major strides in the technologies around scanning, image recognition, cloud based document management and workflow, I would say we’re on the cusp of the next industrial revolution.

This revolution should ensure we are free from the paper and cumbersome processes required at both work and at home – freeing us up for more productivity in the work place ... and a little more love at home!

As Captain Jean Luc would say ..."Make it So!"
